Images

Taxonomy

Agapostemon is a genus of bees in the Halictidae family. They are widespread and common bees in North America.

Description

Agapostemon are shiny, metallic green bees. Females are entirely green, and males have black and yellow bands on their abdomens.

Nest Structure

Agapostemon nest in the ground. Many are solitary nesters, but some species have communal nest sites. The Agapostemon that we found in a Bee Atlas block was dead, and probably crawled into the tunnel seeking shelter before it died.
