Forest Tent Caterpillar
Malacosoma disstria

  • Larvae chew entire sections of leaves
  • Active May and June
  • Larvae are 2" long when fully grown), blue to black, with distinctive white footprint shaped spots on their back as well as hairs that stick out along the sides of their body

Copper Underwing
Amphipyra pyramidoides

  • Larvae chew small irregular holes in young leaves, skeletonizing the leaves
  • Active May and June
  • Larvae are about 1 ¾ inches long when fully grown, bluish green with a thin yellow stripe running the length of its body and a hump on the end

Linden Looper
Erannis tiliaria

  • Young larvae chew small irregular holes in young leaves, older larvae eat entire sections except for the major veins
  • Active May and June
  • Larvae are 1 ½ inches when fully grown, brown with a bright yellow stripe along its sides, 10 thin black stripes, and a grayish white underside

Japanese Beetle
Popillia japonica

  • Beetles skeletonize leaves, i.e. they feed between the major veins
  • Beetles feed on ripe berries
  • Most active July and August
  • Adult beetles are large (1/2" long), with a metallic green head and 5 white tufts on the undersides of the abdomen
