Finding coordinates

Here are some ways to get latitude and longitude coordinates for a specific place.

From your computer

Using Google Maps

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Right-click the place or area on the map.
  3. Select What's here?
  4. A card appears at the bottom of the screen with more info.

Note: If you're using Maps in Lite mode, you won't be able to get the coordinates of a place.

Using Bing Maps

  1. Open Bing Maps.
  2. Right-click the place or area on the map.
  3. A card appears on the screen with more info.

From your iPhone

To determine the coordinates of your iPhone's current location, you can use the Compass app. First, you will need to verify or change your phone's location settings.

  1. Tap on Settings and then Privacy.
  2. Tap on Location Services.
  3. Scroll down until you see Compass and tap on it. If it says While Using on the right side, then you're already set. If not, tap on it and choose While Using the App.
  4. Open the Compass app, and you will see your current location and the current GPS coordinates at the bottom of the screen.

From your Android phone

  1. Open Google Maps on your Android device.
  2. Search for the location you are interested in.
  3. Zoom in as far in as possible.
  4. Press and hold anywhere on the screen. Google Maps will drop a pin onto that location.
  5. An info or detail card will appear at the bottom and you can swipe up on this card. You should see a Share option on the info card, but if you don't, you might have to tap the three dots in the top right corner. This will bring up a menu that has a Share option. This sharing method differs depending on your version of Android and Google Maps, but it should be pretty easy to find.
  6. Choose any service or app to share–it doesn't really matter which one. The point is Google Maps will generate a link and all you need to do is copy that link and paste it into Chrome.
  7. When the map loads, it will automatically show you the coordinates in the search box and in the info card at the bottom.
