Description: 1/16 inch long. White, moth-like insects; hold wings roof-like over their bodies.

Where/When: Found on tomatoes and other plants transplanted into the garden. They can be inadvertently infested when started from seed indoors and brought outside when transplanted. Active during mid to late summer.

Significance: Infested leaves can yellow and drop, reducing plant vigor. However, numbers are usually not high enough to cause serious damage to plants. Whiteflies do not survive winters outdoors in Minnesota.
