Description: 3/4 inch long.
Black with large mandibles and a conspicuous constriction behind the head (prothorax) and the wing covers.
Where/When: Generally found on the ground under leaves and other cover in a variety of environments during spring and summer.
Significance: They are important as predators of insects.
