Size: 3/4 - 1 1/4 inch long
Description: Reddish brown to dark brown in color with large mandibles (jaws), especially the males
Where/When: Found throughout May and June in yards and gardens associated with decaying tree stumps and logs. Also attracted to lights at night.
Significance: Beneficial as a recycler of decaying wood; does not harm people or damage turf or trees.
