Wood cockroaches

Description: 1/2 - 1 inch long.
Flattened, oval body; head is hidden when viewed from above; long antennae and legs. Dark brown with light-colored bands on the edge of the body near the head.
Where/When: Associated with wooded areas (may occasionally enter homes) during spring and summer.
Significance: Beneficial as recycler of decaying plant matter and is just a nuisance. Does not infest food, clothes or other property. Does not persist or reproduce indoors.
