Description: 1/16 - 1/2 inch long. Vary in color from light tan to light green to nearly black, depending on the species. Can be confused with mosquitoes, but they do not bite. Males have plumose, feather-like antennae.
Where/When: Common at dawn and dusk from spring through summer. They are attracted to light.
Significance: They can aggregate in large numbers. They can be annoying but do not harm people or property.
