Description: 1 1/2 - 2 inches long. Creamy white colored with a reddish brown head and six legs. Body is C-shaped.

Where/When: Associated with rotten wood from dead or dying trees, especially oak, maple, elm, apple, cottonwood, cherry, and hickory. Found from August to the following spring.

Significance: Does not harm trees, is present because a separate issue has caused trees to decline and die.
