Description: 1/2 inch long. Compact, stout, hairy black spider with a white, yellow, or orange spot on the middle of the abdomen with two smaller white spots further down on the abdomen. The chelicerae (mouthparts) are iridescent green. They move fast and will jump when disturbed.

Where/When: Found in fields, prairies, open woodlands, and urban gardens and buildings. It is found spring through fall and even during winter inside buildings.

Significance: Beneficial as a predator on insects. Does not harm people.
