Cedar tree borer

Cedar tree borer

Jeff Hahn, University of Minnesota Extension

Description: 3/8 - 1/2 inch long.

Where/When: Most commonly found indoors during winter although can be found at other times of the year.

Significance: Is associated with conifer wood, especially juniper and arbovitae. Can be brought indoors in firewood or lumber in construction projects. Can also emerge from logs in a log cabin. Can cause cosmetic damage to wood from which it emerges, but fortunately it does not re-infest wood.
