Granary/Rice weevil

Granary / Rice weevil

University of Nebraska, Department of Entomology

Description: 3/16 inch long or less. (It is often challenging to recognize small sized beetles from a picture. Because different insects may be treated differently, be sure the insect is correctly identified before attempting control.)

Where/When: Can be found indoors at any time of the year, especially in kitchens and other rooms where dried food products are stored.

Significance: This beetle infests primarily on whole grain, including corn, rice and seeds. It occasionally may infest pasta, nuts, dried fruit.
