Tanbark borer

Tanbark borer

Jeff Hahn, University of Minnesota Extension

Description: 1/2 inch long.

Where/When: Most commonly found indoors during winter although can be found at other times of the year.

Significance: Is associated with oak wood. Can be brought indoors in firewood or lumber in construction projects. Can cause cosmetic damage to wood from which it emerges, but fortunately it does not re-infest wood.
