Flour beetle
Jeff Hahn, University of Minnesota Extension
University of Minnesota, Department of Entomology
Description: 1/4 inch long. (It is often challenging to recognize small-sized beetles from a picture. Because different insects may be treated differently, be sure the insect is correctly identified before attempting control.)
Where/When: Can be found indoors at any time of the year, especially in kitchens and other rooms where dried food products are stored.
Significance: This beetle infests many types of dried foods including cereal products (flour, cake mix, cornmeal, rice, pasta, crackers, and cookies), dry pet food, birdseed, chocolate, raisins and other dried fruits, and spices.
