Description: 1/6 - 1/4 inch long. Dull gray flies; 4 narrow, black longitudinal stripes on thorax; sides of abdomen usually pale.
Where/When: Found in and around buildings during the summer.
Significance: House flies can be a nuisance when they gather on the outside walls of homes and buildings in large numbers. They are associated with waste and decaying matter and can potentially be a vector of disease-causing bacteria. House flies do not bite.
