Description: 2 inches long. Cylindrical white to yellowish bodies, small, mostly concealed head with conspicuous mandibles (jaws), area behind the head a little larger than the rest of the body, legless.

Where/When: Preferred hosts are maple and boxelder but can also attack birch, buckeye, elm, horsechestnut, and willow. Larvae feed underneath the bark and into the heartwood of trees. Present summer through winter until the following spring.
