- Cottony egg sacs look like popcorn on twigs
- Large amounts of honeydew is produced
- Sooty mold colonizes the honeydew producing blackened appearance on leaves, twigs and ranches
- Dieback of twigs and branches may occur when large numbers of cottony maple scale are present
