Crown gall
Agrobacterium tumefaciens
- Leaves wilt and die, plants grow poorly
- Round to irregular woody overgrowth or tumor at soil line or on roots
- Young galls are soft, light green or white
- Old galls are hard, dark colored or black
- Occasionally galls are seen higher on the stem

Winter injury
- Tip dieback is common
- Depending on severity of winter, stems dieback to crown or at least to snowline
- May produce leaves and even flower buds, but dieback in June
