Definitions:

• Invasive:

  The term “invasive” does not have a single, set definition and opinions vary on what constitutes an “invasive plant”. For this website we will consider “invasive plants” to be those that are capable of moving in and displacing existing plants. While not all non-native plats are invasive, there is great concern when non-native weeds invade and disrupt native ecosystems.

  Invasive plants are often usually very vigorous spreaders and may produce great quantities of seed. Some have extensive, difficult-to-kill root systems. Traits such as dense rhizome (underground stem) spread and thick seedling production allow invasive plants to crowd out existing plants. Understanding an invasive plant’s growth habit and life cycle will help determine the best methods for eradication of the invasive.
