Creeping Yellowcress (Yellow Fieldcress, Keek)

Rorippa sylvestris (L.) Bess (R. sinuata)

Found in:

  • Landscape beds; common in heavy, wet, nutrient-rich soil

Characteristics:

  • Annual, biennial, or short-lived perennial that is 6-18” tall
  • Leaves are alternate along stem, linear and deeply lobed
  • Pale yellow 4-petaled flowers at or near the end of the stem occur June to Sept.; flower stems are upright
  • Pale yellow taproot is slender and has secondary fibrous roots

Significance:

  • Seed is produced 2 to 3 times per year
  • Plants spread by growing additional shoots from the crown or from the roots
