Exotic Honeysuckles
Lonicera species: Tatarian Honeysuckle L. tatarica (L.), Morrow's Honeysuckle L. morrowii (Gray), Bell's Honeysuckle L. x bella (Zabel)
Found in:
- Old landscapes, fields, marshes, woodlands and woodland edges
- Full sun and part shade
Characteristics:
- Woody shrub that is dense, multi-stemmed and upright
- Grows to a height of 10’
- Stem pith is brown with a hollow center
- Older stems have shaggy bark
- Leaves are bluish-green, have smooth edges (no teeth) and are hairless
- Tubular flowers are white, pink or red
- Berries (fruits) are red or orange and numerous
Significance
- Minnesota Invasive Weed
- Seeds spread readily by birds
- Not to be confused with native Bush Honeysuckle (Diervilla lonicera)
